46 CFR § 541.8 relief requests
A cited dispute, ready before the coffee is.

Request for waiver of the full amount under 46 CFR § 541.8
Cedar Ridge Home Goods requests waiver of the full amount of $9,450 invoiced for demurrage on 2 containers (MRDU 482019 3, MRDU 482231 0) at Pier 400, Port of Los Angeles. This request is made within the period set by § 541.8(a).
- 4 required elements missing. Container availability date (imports); URL, QR code or digital watermark; Certification of FMC rule consistency; Certification of no contributing performance. Omitting required information eliminates any obligation to pay the charge. (§ 541.5 / § 541.6)
- Free time started 4 days before the container was available. Free time was counted from Sep 22, 2026 but the terminal released the box on Sep 26, 2026. Free time should run from availability. (§ 545.5 / tariff free-time rule)
- 1 charged day when the cargo could not move. Sep 26: No import appointments released for the terminal shift. Charges that cannot serve their incentive purpose are open to challenge as unreasonable. (46 U.S.C. § 41102(c) / 46 CFR § 545.5)
Please confirm the waiver or credit within 30 calendar days of receipt as required by § 541.8(b).

Disputes FAQ
Who approves a dispute before it goes out?
You do. Packets queue for approval by default. Teams with mature rules can auto-send specific finding types, for example every invoice issued after day 30, while keeping partial disputes under review.
Where are disputes sent?
To the dispute contact the billing party printed on the invoice under § 541.6(d)(1), through email or the carrier's portal workflow you specify. Every send is logged with a timestamp for the § 541.8 record.
What if the carrier asks for more information?
The request and your reply stay on the dispute thread. The resolution clock is tracked from receipt of your original request, and any agreed extension is recorded so nobody loses track of the deadline.
Can the tone match our carrier relationships?
Yes. Templates are factual and cite the rule, never threatening. You can set carrier-specific intros, routing and escalation contacts.
