Senior Backend Engineer, EDI and Carrier Data
Own the pipelines that turn carrier invoices, EDI 315 and 322 status messages and terminal records into a clean, per-container timeline the audit engine can trust. You will work with Kavya Reddy, our Lead Trade Systems Architect, on ingestion that has to be right to the day, because a single misread date changes what a customer owes.
What you'll do
- Build and operate parsers for ANSI X12 315, 322 and 310 transactions, carrier portal exports and PDF invoices, with clear handling for duplicate, late and out-of-order events.
- Design the container timeline model that reconciles carrier, terminal and visibility-provider events into availability, outgate, empty return and hold periods.
- Write the services that apply free time, tariff and service contract rules to that timeline and compare the result with each billed day.
- Set up monitoring that tells us when a trading partner's feed changes format or goes quiet, before a customer notices.
- Review code, mentor engineers and keep data lineage clear enough that a recovery specialist can explain any audit result to a carrier billing desk.
What you bring
- 6+ years building backend systems in production, with at least 2 years working on EDI, freight, payments or other partner-data integrations.
- Strong TypeScript or Python, and solid PostgreSQL: schema design, query plans and migrations on large tables.
- Hands-on experience with X12 or EDIFACT parsing, AS2 or SFTP exchange, and the messy reality of partner data.
- Habit of writing tests around edge cases (time zones, daylight saving, partial records) rather than happy paths.
Nice to have
- Experience with ocean or intermodal visibility data, terminal operating systems or carrier booking flows.
- Event-sourced or temporal data models.
- Experience running workloads on AWS with infrastructure as code.
