Maritime Regulatory Analyst
Keep our rule packs exact. You will work with Arjun Malhotra, Head of Maritime Regulatory Intelligence, to translate 46 CFR Part 541, the § 545.5 interpretive rule, OSRA 2022 and FMC decisions into checks the audit engine applies to every invoice, and into dispute language that cites the right subsection every time.
What you'll do
- Track Federal Register notices, FMC orders, court decisions affecting Part 541 and published carrier and MTO tariff changes, and summarize what each one changes for customers within a week of issue.
- Maintain the mapping from each of the 20 § 541.6 elements, the § 541.7 issuance rules and the § 541.8 relief timelines to audit checks and dispute citations.
- Review dispute and charge complaint templates with our advisor on maritime administrative law so they stay accurate and professional.
- Research free time, rate and exclusion terms in published carrier tariffs and terminal schedules for the rule library.
- Answer regulatory questions from recovery specialists and customers' trade compliance teams, and know where the line between audit support and legal advice sits.
What you bring
- Law degree (LL.B. or LL.M.) or a degree in maritime studies, international trade or shipping management, with 3+ years in trade compliance, maritime law research or carrier or freight forwarder documentation.
- Ability to read US federal regulations and agency decisions closely and explain them in plain English.
- Working knowledge of ocean shipping documents: bills of lading, service contracts, tariffs and terminal schedules.
- Excellent written English and a careful approach to citations.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with FMC proceedings, OSRA 2022 or US customs processes.
- Experience at a shipping line, NVOCC or marine terminal.
- Comfort working with structured data or simple SQL queries.
